Caddo provides FAQ on upcoming millage

*For community members preparing to vote on the May 4 millage proposal from Caddo Schools, the district has put together a list of frequently asked questions to help guide your review of information. If you have specific questions which are not answered in the below information, visit www.caddoschools.org/millage or contact the Communications Department of Caddo Schools at (318) 603-6340.

Question: What would the millage fund?

Answer: The millage would allow the district to:
*Upgrade heating and air conditioning throughout district schools
 * Update the district's aging bus fleet with new air-conditioned buses
 * Increase safety and security on school campuses

Question: Does the millage increase taxes?

Answer: This millage does not increase the current tax rate. If approved, voters would continue to pay the same tax rate they are paying today. The vote simply allows Caddo to use .6 mills of a current millage to fund the identified needs.

Question: The ballot language mentions purchasing land and building schools and playgrounds, but the district is saying it's for operations. Why is that the case?

Answer: The ballot language was approved by the Louisiana Bond Commission in accordance with state and federal requirements for districts throughout the state of Louisiana to be used in order to allow for the sale of bonds. This same language has been a part of each Caddo Schools bond proposal for more than 20 years. The Board will only use the funds requested of voters for purposes outlined in the Capital Improvement Plan approved on January 15, 2019 referenced in the ballot measure. That plan includes only heating and air conditioning of schools, purchasing of new school buses and implementation of nationally recognized security measures.

Question: After early voting, where do we vote?

Answer: Election day voting will take place on May 4 at your designated precinct. To determine where you are scheduled to vote, visit https://voterportal.sos.la.gov/

Question: How can I learn more about the millage proposal and what is included?

Answer: Details about the May 4 proposal are found at www.caddoschools.org/millage which includes a video overview.
