Welcome to Caddo Parish Public Schools

Jackson named next principal of Midway Elementary

Three-time teacher of the year winner and assistant principal of University Elementary Christopher Jackson was named the principal of Midway Elementary on Tuesday by Superintendent Dr. T. Lamar Goree.

As principal of Midway Elementary, Jackson said he believes in servant leadership and the power of working closely with teachers and parents in decision-making. He was named after Marvin Rainey, the school’s principal since 2014, was selected as an executive master teacher for the district. Rainey’s position will have him working closely with educators to grow leadership capabilities and create a stronger collaborative environment between administrators and teachers.

“Mr. Jackson is just the right person for Midway and carrying on the work we’ve done to turnaround the school since the Zone work began,” said Dr. Goree. “Mr. Jackson knows the unique needs of students whether gifted, special educator or other specific needs and has a powerful way of working with teachers and families to foster student success in all children. I have no doubt he will do an excellent job at Midway.”

Jackson, a Grambling State University and Louisiana Tech University graduate, began his career in education in 2008 at Webster Junior High School in Webster Parish. There he quickly earned a reputation for his commitment to students and passion for meeting student needs. By 2010, he was named the school’s teacher of the year and was also announced as a Louisiana Endowment for the Human American History Scholar. In 2011, Jackson was named a Horace Mann Abraham Lincoln Fellow and began his work in Bienville Parish. Within a year, he was named the Arcadia High School teacher of the year and the high school teacher of the year for the district.

In 2015, Jackson moved to Caddo Parish as assistant principal at University Elementary, the district’s largest elementary school serving over 1,000 students in grades prekindergarten through fifth. The district will post the position of assistant principal at University Elementary on Tuesday and will fill the position this summer before the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year.
