Caddo Parish School Board Member Lloyd Thompson passed away Saturday afternoon following a recent illness.
Thompson served on the Board as District 3 Representative which included communities surrounding schools such as Booker T. Washington High School, J.S. Clark Elementary, Cherokee Park Elementary, Creswell Elementary and North Highlands Elementary.
Thompson was just over a year into his first term on the Board which began in January 2019. He chaired the Board’s Long-Range Planning Committee which oversaw the future needs of the district and worked to address school system equity.
“Board Member Thompson had a clear passion for the needs of all students in Caddo Schools,” said Dr. T. Lamar Goree, Superintendent of Caddo Schools. “He saw children for all of their promise and potential and sought to provide opportunities for them to reach their full potential.”
Goree said Board Member Thompson was known for his deep commitment to his community. He was an involved Board Member who attended all committee and Board meetings and was a frequent staple at the schools he represented.
“On behalf of the Board, we are prayerful for Mr. Thompson’s family, friends and constituents,” said Board President Mary Trammel. “We stand committed as a Board to ensuring the needs of District 3 are met and carrying on the work of public service for the 38,000 students under our care.”
