Caddo Parish Public Schools is proud to announce Captain Shreve High School Principal Ginger Gustavson has been named the 2020 Louisiana Association of School Executives Regional Principal of the Year.
Gustavson, who has served as the principal of Captain Shreve since 2015, has garnered a reputation of excellence with continued increases in the school’s graduation rate, student performance and parental involvement. Under Gustavson’s guidance, Captain Shreve also earned recognition as a National PTA School of Excellence and consistent accolades for student leadership advocacy. The school also is home to a 2020 National Merit Semi-Finalist. Additionally, Gustavson’s ability to cultivate a community and family-centered approach to the high school experience has resulted in continued enrollment growth each year of her tenure.
“Caddo is incredibly proud of Mrs. Gustavson and all she does to support the students of Captain Shreve, her teachers and staff,” said Dr. T. Lamar Goree, Superintendent of Caddo Schools. “She is an incredible advocate for all and does a wonderful job of improving opportunities for students while meeting the needs of the community to have the best school possible. She makes us proud not only today but every day, and we are so grateful that she is Caddo.”
Gustavson is a veteran of Caddo Parish Public Schools with 27 years of experience in the district. She began her career as a math teacher before pursuing opportunities as a high school counselor and as the district’s Secondary Math Curriculum Specialist where she oversaw much of the district’s accreditation process. While Gustavson’s experience is vast, her heart is undoubtedly with the students and staff of Captain Shreve.
“I am humbled and grateful to be recognized, but it is not about me alone,” she said. “I am blessed to be surrounded by talented students, talented teachers and talented staff members who work hard every day. To be able to work alongside our parents, alumni and community to carry on 53 years of excellence at Captain Shreve is something that sets our school apart. We embrace the role every person plays in who we are and fulfilling our mission.”
