Caddo Parish Public Schools is proud to announce that senior Maya Trutschl of Caddo Parish Magnet High School has been named one of the Top 300 Regeneron Science Talent Search 2026 Scholars, earning recognition as the only honoree from Louisiana in this year’s prestigious competition.

The Regeneron Science Talent Search, the nation’s oldest and most esteemed science and math competition for high school seniors, recognizes outstanding young scientists whose original research demonstrates exceptional scientific creativity and potential. This year’s announcement highlights 300 emerging STEM leaders selected from more than 2,600 applicants across the United States and international schools.

Maya’s research project, titled “Automated Prediction and Prevention of Pressure Injuries Using Machine Learning and Thermal Sensing: A Clinical Validation Study,” applies advanced machine learning techniques and innovative thermal sensing technology to improve early detection and prevention of pressure injuries. Her work signifies a meaningful contribution to the field of medicine and health, leveraging computational approaches to address a significant clinical challenge. 

In addition to the honor of being named a Regeneron STS Scholar, Maya will receive a scholarship award, and Caddo Parish Magnet High School will also be recognized for supporting her research and academic development.

Scholars were chosen based on their outstanding research, leadership skills, community involvement, commitment to academics, creativity in asking scientific questions and exceptional promise as STEM leaders demonstrated through the submission of their original, independent research projects, essays and recommendations.

Maya’s achievement continues a strong tradition of excellence in STEM education within Caddo Parish Public Schools and underscores the remarkable talent of our students on regional and national stages.
