Caddo Schools continued its upward movement on the 2026 LEAP assessments, increasing the percentage of students scoring Mastery and above across all tested grades, according to results released today by the Louisiana Department of Education.
Across all tested grades, social studies led the district’s gains, increasing two percentage points in students scoring Mastery and above.. Math also increased one point to 28 percent, while English language arts and science remained steady.
Caddo's math results were particularly competitive in fourth and fifth grade when compared statewide to districts of comparable size. At the school level, 26 campuses increased their overall mastery rate. Claiborne Fundamental Elementary School posted the district's largest gain, rising 15 percentage points and recording double-digit gains in ELA, math, science and social studies. Green Oaks Performing Arts Academy and Midway Professional Development Center each increased 11 points overall. A.C. Steere Elementary School and North Highlands Elementary School each gained seven points, and Caddo Virtual Academy increased six points.
Seven schools improved in each of the four tested subjects: A.C. Steere, Caddo Virtual Academy, Claiborne Fundamental, Midway, Mooringsport Elementary School and North Highlands. Among individual subject gains, Claiborne increased 18 points in math and 21 points in science; Green Oaks gained 18 points in math; Midway gained 19 points in social studies and 14 points in science; and A.C. Steere increased 15 points in math.
Students with disabilities showed one of the district's strongest subgroup trends. Their grades 3-8 mastery rate increased two points while the statewide rate was unchanged and peer-district gains ranged from zero to one point. Military-affiliated students increased one point to 52 percent and Hispanic/Latino students increased two points to 28 percent. Economically disadvantaged students and English learners each gained one point in grades 3-8.
Superintendent Keith Burton said the results are a reflection of the work taking place each day across Caddo’s schools.
“We are proud of what our students are achieving and deeply grateful for the teachers, school leaders and support teams who make that progress possible,” Burton said. “Caddo is committed to providing our schools with the time, resources and expertise needed to make a meaningful difference for students. These results give us much to celebrate, both as a district and within individual schools, and they reinforce what is possible when talented educators and determined students work together toward high expectations.”
The district will continue its multi-year focus on expanded math instructional time, high-quality curricula, job-embedded coaching, common assessments and targeted intervention. School and district teams will use the new results to identify standards and student groups requiring further support and to refine plans for the 2026-2027 school year.
“These results provide a clear picture of where our instructional strategies are producing gains and where additional focus is needed,” said Chief Academic Officer Angela Henry. “We are encouraged by the progress in social studies and math, while the steady results in English language arts and science reinforce the need to continue strengthening instruction in those areas. Our academic teams will use this data alongside classroom performance and other measures to identify trends, respond to the needs of individual schools and ensure our next steps are focused on improving outcomes for every student.”
LEAP includes assessments of ELA, math, science and social studies for grades 3-12. Student scores are reported at five achievement levels: Unsatisfactory, Approaching Basic, Basic, Mastery and Advanced. Students scoring Mastery or Advanced are considered proficient and ready for the next level of study.
These LEAP results are one component the Louisiana Department of Education will use to calculate school performance scores, which are scheduled to be released later this fall. The 2026 scores will be the first issued under the state’s new Grow. Achieve. Thrive. accountability model.
