We are proud of our 15 students who have earned the title of National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. Congratulations on receiving this prestigious honor! The nationwide pool of semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. All semifinalists qualified during their junior year by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). Meet Caddo's new District Recruiter! Renee Ellis has already started working with the Teach Caddo team on various projects, planning, and meeting with university partners and Caddo staff. The veteran educator has nearly 30 years of experience and served as the Principal of Westwood Elementary before assuming the role of Community Engagement Specialist for the Achievement Zone. Mrs. Ellis is proud of her work with principals, helping local and out-of-state educators find the perfect teaching position for the new school year. We are excited to announce our Swim For Life program in collaboration with the YMCA of Northwest Louisiana has reached 15,000 students. Swim For Life is a four-day water safety course that provides second graders in Caddo Parish with lifesaving techniques that will help them to be informed and prepared around the water. A familiar face will be returning to Huntington High School! We are excited to share that Nicholaus Smith is the new Principal of Huntington, a campus where he played an integral part in the school’s success during his five years as an Assistant Principal. Mr. Smith previously served as the Principal of Caddo Middle Career & Technology School, where he worked diligently to enhance the climate and culture at CMCTS. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Matthew Mitchell will serve as the district's Executive Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction. The position works directly to support our schools in ensuring they have the tools for each student to achieve success in their K-12 secondary careers by ensuring the highest-quality teaching and learning is taking place with a focus on career pathways and access to rigorous programs. Over the last five years, Dr. Mitchell has served as the Principal of Huntington High School where he led the school to sizable gains in school performance along with recognition on the state stage for efforts in dual enrollment.
