While we salute all our teachers who have answered their calling in the classroom, we recognize that nearly 70% of K-12 educators across the U.S. are women. On this International Women's Day, we send a special thanks to all the women who make Caddo Schools run. We couldn't do it without you! #WeAreCaddo #InternationalWomensDay

Southwood Senior DeMarcell Frierson has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious Gates Scholarship, which supports Pell-Grant eligible underrepresented minorities in their pursuit of a college education. Every year, tens of thousands of applicants across the nation compete for this award, with less than 3% making it to the Finalist round. DeMarcell has been a standout student on his campus. He has been Student Council President, crowned Homecoming King and was a Student of the Year finalist. He was one of two Southwood students who completed a fall internship at LSU Health Shreveport, where he ran statistical analysis to uncover genes that affect cancer progressions in cells. DeMarcell has accomplished all this despite working up to 30 hours a week and helping support his family. We wish DeMarcell good luck and great success!
