All Caddo schools will be open on Thursday, April 14th. Thanks to SWEPCO for working to restore campuses affected by Tuesday's storms. Caddo looks forward to welcoming all students back to campuses tomorrow.

Due to the threat of severe weather later today, all after-school activities have been canceled.

Pine Grove Elementary School will also be closed today due to a power outage at the campus.

Additional school closure: Atkins Elementary will be close today due to a power outage from last night's storms.

Following last night’s storms, 13 Caddo schools will be closed today due to power outages. Those schools are: Sunset Acres, Forest Hill, Caddo Middle Magnet, Southern Hills, 81st Street ECE, Summer Grove, Booker T. Washington, Walnut Hill, Northside, Westwood, Mooringsport, Eden Gardens and Ridgewood.

Congratulations to these Caddo educators on receiving the Simple Science Grant awarded by the LSU Health Science Center. This grant helps classrooms with funding to enhance science curriculum. Our teachers plan to use these funds toward science fairs, books and supplies, live specimens and other resources. Thank you LSU Health for offering this opportunity to our classrooms!

Congratulations are in order for two very artistic Caddo students! Hannah McGuire at Caddo Magnet High and Katelyn Obermeyer at Riverside Elementary have been recognized as first and second place winners of the Louisiana School Boards Association annual art contest! Each category had three winners and Caddo was the only district of the 40 who entered to receive a first and second place winner. A variety of information is available for NMSC to evaluate: The Finalist’s academic record, information about the school’s curriculum and grading system, PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index score, the high school official’s written recommendation, information about the student’s activities and leadership, and the Finalist’s own essay.

Each year, 100 musically gifted students across Louisiana are selected to participate in statewide music concerts. This group of CMHS students were selected to perform at the 2021-2022 All State Orchestra led by the Louisiana Music Educators Association. Southwood Senior DeMarcell Frierson has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious Gates Scholarship, which supports Pell-Grant eligible underrepresented minorities in their pursuit of a college education. Every year, tens of thousands of applicants across the nation compete for this award, with less than 3% making it to the Finalist round. DeMarcell has been a standout student on his campus. He has been Student Council President, crowned Homecoming King and was a Student of the Year finalist. He was one of two Southwood students who completed a fall internship at LSU Health Shreveport, where he ran statistical analysis to uncover genes that affect cancer progressions in cells. DeMarcell has accomplished all this despite working up to 30 hours a week and helping support his family. We wish DeMarcell good luck and great success!
