Caddo Parish's very own K. Renae Pullen is serving as the keynote speaker this morning at the National Science Teaching Association's national conference! Pullen serves as Caddo's elementary science curriculum specialist and is an accomplished and acclaimed educator who has won numerous local, state, and national awards including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching. Today she will present on why science is truly for everyone. As keynote speaker, her presentation will explore the transformative power of investigating complex phenomena, solving real-world problems that matter to students, celebrating the brilliance of all our students, and exploring ways to create caring learning environments where it can happen. Congratulations, K. Renae, and thank you for representing Caddo well!

The City of Shreveport is experiencing water issues causing low water pressure at Huntington. Our team has been working with city personnel who have indicated they are working to identify the cause of the water pressure drop. Huntington parents may pick up their children at this time or authorize their students to check out. Buses will be arriving within the hour to begin picking up students and taking them home.

Our first Attendance and Resource Fair of the school year will take place tomorrow at Broadmoor Baptist Church. Parents and students may attend these fairs; however, it is important that the parent comes! Caddo Schools Attendance Department staff members will be available to address attendance concerns. During this time, parents will be allowed to write a parent note for 3 of their child’s unexcused absences, and submit doctor's excuses (which can be excused at any time during the school year). Also, there will be community resources available for families who may be dealing with mental health issues, Shreveport Job Corps, Caddo’s Parent Resource Department, McKinney Vento (Homeless), Gingerbread House, and other Mental Health agencies approved by Caddo Parish Public Schools. Caddo will host five attendance support fairs throughout the school year.

The honor is awarded by the Department of the Army to a JROTC cadet who performs an act of heroism. Earlier this year, Cadet Davis displayed courage when helping his 10-year-old friend escape a dog attack. We are proud of Josiah and congratulations on earning a four-year JROTC scholarship to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette as a ROTC Cadet to commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. #wearecaddo
